Hundreds of Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) supporters staged a rally outside the United States Embassy here on Monday in protest against the planned visit of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The protesters carried banners which among others read “Hillary Clinton is a Zionist-Israel,s accomplice” and “Hillary You,re not Welcome Here.”
The HTI sympathizers also waved flags carrying Arabic characters with a black-and-white background.
The crowds demonstrated in two groups, one male group and the other female group.
“Do you accept it if Hillary sets her foot in Indonesia,” a HTI leader said in his oration which was answered in unison “no”.
HTI spokesman Farid Wajdi said the visit of the US state secretary was not more than an attempt to strengthen the US hegemony and domination in East Asia and Southeast Asian nations.
“Clinton,s visit on February 18-19, 2009 is not more than an attempt to strengthen the US hegemony in East Asia and South East Asia, particularly Indonesia,” he said.
He said that although Hillary came from the Democrat Party, yet she was a supporter of the US aggression into Iraq.
Farid said Hillary Clinton was a fanatic supporter of Israel, whose support is bigger than that of the US President Barack Obama.
On January 30, 2009, HTI protesters also stage similar rally outside the US embassy against Israeli military attacks on Palestine.
In that rally on Jan 30, the HTI activists and sympathizers protested against US new leadership under the new regime who remained supporting Israel fully.
They said US President Barack Obama,s policy in relation with Palestinian conflict remained the same as that of his predecessor, George W Bush.
“Therefore, Clinton,s visit should be rejected because it would only reinforce the US hegemony to this country,” Farid stressed.
Previously, the United States Ambassdor to Indonesia, Cameron Hume, said that the US state secretary,s visit to Indonesia on February 18-19 was to discuss cooperation in various fields such as education, trade and health. (AntaraNews, 16/02/09)
Indonesian Muslim Group Says Clinton Not Welcome
Jakarta – About 100 Indonesian Muslims rallied outside the US embassy in Jakarta Monday to protest a planned visit this week by US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. The protestors from the conservative Islamic group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia waved placards denouncing Clinton as a “Zionist agent” in reference to Israel.
“Hillary, you are not welcome here,” read a poster held by a woman wearing a white headscarf.
“Hillary is not interested in respectful dialogue with the Muslim world,” one protestor said. “She’s only interested in defending Israel.”
Clinton is scheduled to be in Jakarta Wednesday and Thursday as part of her Asian tour that is to also take her to Japan, China and South Korea.
Clinton’s stop in Indonesia would place her in the Muslim world’s most populous country on a trip that could foreshadow a visit later this year by US President Barack Obama, who as a child attended school in Jakarta while living with his mother and Indonesian stepfather. (theEarthTimes, 16/02/09)
